Scope of this declaration

The German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and all contributors are constantly working to ensure that the www.deutscher-nachhaltigkeitskodex.de website complies with the relevant regulations on digital accessibility. To program, design and make the website as editorially and technically accessible as possible.

The following legal provisions apply to us:

  • Act on Equal Opportunities of Persons with Disabilities (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz, BGG) and Ordinance on Barrier-Free Information Technology (Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung, BITV 2.0) Directive (EU) 2016/2102

Continuous optimization and requirements

Not only browsers, but also special technical tools for using websites are constantly evolving. We intend to continuously optimize this website for these tools as well. In this way, we ensure that the website is easier to use for all visitors.

To ensure that the requirements for digital accessibility are implemented in a targeted manner, we use the aids, offers and tools currently available from the usual providers in the field of image and graphics creation and content management systems.

No user agent or assistance software for adapting the website of an external provider is implemented in this website.

The requirements for digital accessibility result from compliance with the WCAG 2.2 AA criteria, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). A series of international standards for the accessible design of web content.

Status of compliance with the requirements

  • The second audit, “Simplified monitoring of BITV 2.0,” was conducted by the Federal Monitoring Agency for Accessibility of Information Technology (BFIT-Bund) in February 2026.
The review has revealed: the website complies with BITV 2.0.

Implementations and optimizations already completed

  • Almost all technical accessibility issues previously identified in the “Simplified Monitoring for BITV 2.0” audit conducted by the Federal Monitoring Agency for Accessibility of Information Technology (BFIT-Bund) on January 23, 2025, have been resolved.
  • In particular, the digital accessibility requirements arising from compliance with the WCAG 2.2 AA criteria (perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness) have been addressed and optimized.
  • Following technical and design optimization of the website for digital accessibility in 2025, the website is, to the best of our knowledge, now accessible.
  • Publication of an Accessibility Statement since June 2025. (06/2025 Version 1)
  • Feedback mechanism with low click accessibility via the accessibility statement since 06/2025.
  • A central overview and entry page for The DNK in Simple English with clear and understandable imagery has been created.
  • Furthermore, the overview pages of the first navigation level, such as About Us, have been implemented in easy language.
  • All PDF documents newly created from 2026 onwards will be offered in PDF/UA (Universal Accessibility) format.

Non-accessible content and functions

The following administrative accessibility features and functions are not yet fully compliant with the digital accessibility regulations applicable to us:

  • Central pages such as the overview and entry page are not offered in sign language.
  • Individual PDF documents that are used and updated on an ongoing basis are not currently available in PDF/UA (Universal Accessibility) format.
(Existing documents without updates have been assigned to the archive as completed items.)
  • Various solutions have been considered for a barrier-free newsletter service and will be examined further.
