The QualityNet Foundation is a network of committed organizations and active citizens that seek to raise awareness in all areas of society of the need to act responsibly and take social concerns into consideration.
The aim of the partnership between the German Council for Sustainable Development and QNF is to make the Greek version of the German Sustainability Code known in Greece and the Balkans in general. The translation of the GSC into Greek, initiated by the QNF, is an important prerequisite to accomplishing this. The Greek translation provides medium-sized companies in Greece with a transparency and assessment instrument while it lays the groundwork for a sustainability code for listed companies, a measure that has been suggested by the QNF.
This sustainability code is currently being developed as a part of the initiative “Sustainable Greece2020.” The initiative is a project under the current Greek EU presidency. It intends for a multistage dialogue involving consultations between high-level representatives from business, academia, politics, and civil society.
The partnership between the German Council for Sustainable Development and the QualityNet Foundation demonstrates that contents of the GSC are applicable across borders. A look at the great variation between the standards of sustainability reporting in the EU member states and the increasing interest in standardization makes it clear that an instrument such as the GSC, with its focus on relevance, commitment, and transparency, can be a beneficial and feasible option for advancing green economy in many EU countries.
