The German Sustainability Code in the view of SMEs

The workshop “A Sustainability Code for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises? Requirements for the German Sustainability Code (GSC) in the View of SMEs”, held in cooperation with the Bertelsmann Foundation, brought together approximately 30 business persons from various business sectors – ranging from the transport, logistics and waste management industry, the textile, food and drugstore sector, to housing companies.

In a lively discussion, the participants exchanged views on the advantages and disadvantages of sustainability reporting, EU reporting requirements and the common reporting standards.

In subsequent group work, they debated the usefulness of the GSC, made a number of constructive suggestions to improve the applicability of the instrument for SMEs and discussed possible areas for adjustment.

The results of the workshop will inform the work of the council in readjusting the strategic focus of the sustainability code and serve as input for the further collaboration with the Bertelsmann Foundation.
